My Cat Had Gastrointestinal Lymphoma: Saying Goodbye to Adah

On June 6, 2026, I lost my cat Adah. I'm still in shock, still crying on and off, and honestly still reaching for her out of habit. She was 8 years old and had been by my side for 7 of them. Writing this is hard, but I know it's something I need to do, because if you're searching for information about feline gastrointestinal lymphoma or trying to figure out what comes next after losing your cat, I want you to know you're not alone. I've been right where you are. Adah wasn't just a cat to me; she was like a daughter. She was the one who helped me survive losing my Maltese dog back in February 2019. I got her at the end of March that same year. She was actually my first cat ever. And somehow, without me even realizing it, she became the center of my world. I had no idea that choosing her would be one of the best decisions of my life or that letting her go would be one of the hardest. ⚡ Key Takeaways 🐱 Feline GI lymphoma is the most common c...

Why I’m Finally Deleting TikTok: Privacy, Politics, and Peace

Image
I've never been a huge fan of TikTok. I’m 44, and I haven't been into social media like that for almost 10 years now. I’m just over it . But TikTok is in a league of its own. It’s tailored to young people, not people my age. I just don’t get it. People dancing and lip-syncing in front of the camera. People posting LIVE selfies where they're just flaunting or making weird faces for a few seconds. Why would anyone want to see this!??? Especially from people I don’t even know!? It’s just absurd to me. Plus, I’ve dealt with TikTok groupies all up in my husband’s DMs, and that was the last straw. I absolutely hated TikTok after that. And it’s not just my husband; it’s your husband / boyfriend / significant other. Heck, it’s everyone's husband / boyfriend / significant other! It’s sad. And what’s worse is that it’s mostly YOUNG girls from OTHER countries doing this (outside of the USA). There are gold diggers all over TikTok (especially on TikTok Live begging for gifts/co...

Is LinkedIn Actually Cringey?

Image
Oh boy, LinkedIn. We've all been there, right? Scrolling through our feeds, seeing posts that make us pause and think, "Did I really just read that?" It's the platform for professionals, the place where we're supposed to put our best foot forward and network our way to success. Source: Pixabay But lately, there's been a whisper, a growing feeling that maybe, just maybe, LinkedIn has a bit of a cringe problem. I mean, I try to keep it professional, share some positive vibes and interesting articles, and connect with my actual colleagues. But after seeing what's out there, I've had to ask myself, have I been contributing to the cringe? Even the job search part, which is supposed to be a main feature, feels like a chaotic mess with endless competition and sketchy listings. It makes you wonder what's really going on. The Rise of the LinkedIn Cringe So, where does all this cringe come from? Based on what I've seen and r...

The TikTok Saga: A Digital Tug-of-War

Image
In a shocking turn of events, the United States Supreme Court has upheld a law that could potentially ban TikTok, one of the world's most popular social media platforms. The Supreme Court's ruling on January 17, 2025, has shaken up the online world, sparking intense discussions about how to balance national security and free speech. This decision has got everyone talking about the challenges we face in an increasingly interconnected society. The controversy surrounding TikTok didn't start overnight. It's been brewing for years, with concerns about the app's Chinese ownership through its parent company, ByteDance. These worries reached a boiling point in April 2024 when Congress passed the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act with overwhelming bipartisan support. This law, signed by President Joe Biden, set a strict deadline of January 19, 2025, for ByteDance to sell TikTok's U.S. assets or face a ban. The reasoning? There wer...

Twitter's Fall, Threads' Rise: Social Media's Shifting Tides

Image
I've seen platforms come and go, constantly leaving me searching for the next big thing. As a seasoned blogger since 2008, I've witnessed firsthand the dramatic shifts in the digital landscape. The recent decline of Twitter under Elon Musk's leadership has prompted me, along with many others, to seek alternatives . Let me take you through my exploration of the current state of social media and the rise of new platforms like Threads, Bluesky, and Lemon8. My Twitter Dilemma Twitter, once a vibrant hub for real-time news and witty banter, has faced significant challenges since Elon Musk's takeover. I've watched the platform experience a sharp decline in advertising revenue, losing almost half of its ad revenue since October 2022 . This financial struggle has led to aggressive cost-cutting measures, including massive layoffs and changes to content moderation policies that I've found concerning (certain search queries makes you feel like you're on an X-rated site...

Overcoming Social Media Addiction: Treatment Options and Help

Image
Social media has become deeply embedded into modern life, with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok serving as primary channels for connection, communication, and content consumption for billions of people globally. However, growing research indicates that excessive, uncontrolled use of these platforms can trigger addictive behaviors that profoundly impact users' mental health and relationships .  Though not formally classified as a disorder, social media use can become obsessive. Individuals may continue compulsive scrolling despite adverse consequences, a signature feature of all behavioral addictions. As users habitually chase dopamine by accumulating likes, comments, and followers, withdrawal symptoms can emerge when attempting to reduce social media intake. Over time, personal life, sleep, work performance, and emotional well-being can suffer from this digital dependency .  Unfortunately, due to social media's integral presence through smartphones and other devi...

Take Control of Your Social Media Habit: 10 Signs and Tips

Image
Social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are designed to keep us coming back for more. The endless scroll, the notifications, and the fear of missing out play right into our human psychology. But for many of us, our social media use has spiraled out of control. Source: Pexels We reach for our phones first thing in the morning and last thing at night. We can't make it through a meal, a meeting, or even a few minutes waiting in line without checking the apps. This constant connection takes a toll on our productivity, mental health, relationships, and more. If this sounds familiar, it's time to regain control of your social media habits. Here are 10 signs you need to take a break—and 10 ways to start scrolling less right now:

The Dangers of Chasing Social Media Fame

Image
Social media can be an incredibly powerful tool for connecting with others, sharing ideas, and building communities. However, the constant pressure to gain likes, comments, and followers can also lead some people down an unhealthy path. If you find yourself compromising your values or taking extreme risks just to boost your social standing, it may be time for some serious self-reflection. The Perils of Prioritizing Popularity The dopamine hit of watching those follower counts tick up can become addictive. Each new like or positive comment gives our brains a little rush, triggering the reward centers. Over time, we start craving more and more of this feeling. This is when things can get dangerous . Some people become so focused on presenting an idealized life online that they make reckless financial decisions to maintain appearances. Others pander to the mob mentality, rapidly shifting their supposed beliefs to align with whatever is currently popular. And a disturbing number put thems...

How TikTok Affects Relationships: A Closer Look

Image
In the age of social media dominance, TikTok has emerged as a formidable force, shaping trends, entertaining millions, and influencing the dynamics of romantic relationships. While the platform offers a space for creativity and connection, it comes with challenges that can strain the fabric of partnerships. One prominent issue is the temptation it introduces, providing individuals with easy access to the opposite sex. This accessibility, often coupled with the allure of short-form videos and instant connections, can lead to inappropriate relationships that extend beyond the public eye.  The transition from public comments to private messages (DMs) on the platform may initially seem harmless, but it can escalate further, eventually leading to offline communication. As couples navigate the digital landscape, it becomes imperative to understand and address these temptations to foster trust and maintain the integrity of their relationships.

"That Girl"? No, Thanks. I Am Choosing My Own Path.

Image
The internet is awash with her. "That Girl." The one with the perfectly curated morning routine, the flawless skin, the gym body, and the life so put-together it appears straight out of a Pinterest board. She drinks her green smoothie, conquers her inbox before breakfast, posts perfectly edited selfies, and somehow manages to squeeze in yoga, self-love journaling, and a side hustle before noon. And let's not forget the carefully cultivated aesthetic—the minimalist home, the perfect makeup look, the never-a-hair-out-of-place bun. But here's the thing: I'm not her. And frankly, I don't want to be . Don't get me wrong, there's nothing inherently wrong with striving for self-improvement. Setting goals, building healthy habits, and caring for oneself are commendable pursuits. But the "That Girl" phenomenon feels less like self-improvement and more like a performative ritual of conformity. It's a one-size-fits-all mold that suffocates individ...

19 Tech Horror Movies That'll Make You Ditch Your Devices

Image
Movies have subtly hinted at the scary maze that's often casually known as the internet and social media for some years. This digital trap where we're held captive, highlighted by the dim hum of our unceasing typing and swiping, has been the grim setting of some profoundly unsettling yet intriguing films. Source: Pxfuel These films illustrate the degradation of morals and society due to our unending screen and "likes" obsession. The main characters aren't just people entangled in horrific scenes of terror. They mirror us, or more accurately, what we've turned into - zombified, phone-obsessed beings, aimlessly chasing the next viral hashtag. If Hunter S. Thompson were alive today, he might say, "The internet has turned into a brutal and superficial money pit, a plastic corridor teeming with crooks and hustlers, where good guys meet their end too soon. And that's not even the worst part."
